Mocker Music Bracket | The End of the First Round…Finally!

Good evening Loyal Mockers and welcome back to The Mocker Music Bracket!! We have slowly made our way through the first round and we have two match-ups left in the Boeheim Bracket to complete our own Sweet Sixteen Albums of 2017!

BOEHEIM BRACKET | FIRST ROUND | Deaf Havana, “All These Countless Nights” (12 songs) vs. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, “The French Press” (6 songs)

PREVIEW: Can Deaf Havana join the other Eric Mocker Radio Selections in the second round? Will the solid guitar work of Rolling Blackouts shine past their limited playbook? Let’s find out while we also check out the US Men’s National Team’s World Cup Qualifier in Panama. Will Bruce Arena immediately dig the US out of the hole that previous coach Jurgen Klinsmann dug for the squad?

30 MINUTES LEFT | Deaf Havana (Seattle) | This was a recent Eric Mocker Album of the Week selection but it fell to Strand of Oak’s in a recent Mockumendation battle that has caused much turmoil in the Mocker camp…tepid modern rock begins the evening…I am drinking a cold PBR tonight and I will take a sip every time this guys sings about drinking too much…good for a foul shot…

27 MINUTES LEFT | Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever (Sick Bug) | I haven’t given this record much of a listen but the intertwining electric guitars are speaking my language…solid chorus overcomes the slacking verse vocal and this song is good for two points…

23 MINUTES LEFT | Deaf Havana (L.O.V.E.) | Lots of periods in the song title, wonder why bands think that is a good idea…It doesn’t appear to be a clever play on words as he is just saying ‘love’ repeatedly…the music was solid and another foul shot ties the game up at two…

17 MINUTES LEFT | Deaf Havana (St. Paul) | Trusted correspondent Jamie HS called this section of the album ‘the travelogue’ as every tune is named after a city or region…best song they have played so far and it’s good for two points…

14 MINUTES LEFT | Deaf Havana (Pensacola, 2013) | And the tour of the US continues as we head south to Florida…this Brit seemed to make a lot of friends during his time in America…solid last minute guitar work gives Havana another two points and they are starting to pull away thanks to their solid depth…

9 MINUTES LEFT | Deaf Havana (Ashes, Ashes) | Maybe this is about a city in the near future after Trump tweets something stupid about North Korea…can only award a free throw for this one…Havana 7 Blackouts 2

6 MINUTES LEFT | Deaf Havana (England) | Well the Mocker Music Bracket is in its first edition and I am learning some things…things like an album needs an eight song minimum to compete because Havana have basically had a bye into the second round…all he wants is for England to get out of his head and all I want is for this match-up to be over…free throw…

3 MINUTES LEFT | Deaf Havana (Pretty Low) | And mercifully it has ended…

FINAL SCORE | Deaf Havana 10 Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever 2 | I know you only have six dudes on the bench (or six songs on the record) but still a pretty weak ass effort from Rolling Blackouts, I guess I should have figured with a name like that…

SOCCER UPDATE | Awesome set-up by USA wunderkind Christian Pulisic leads to another Clint Dempsey goal but it was quickly answered by a somewhat scruffy Panamanian tally and we are knotted up at one headed to the half…although it was an awesome throw in that led to the aforementioned somewhat scruffy goal by Panama…

BOEHEIM BRACKET | FIRST ROUND | Ryan Adams, “Prisoner” (12 songs) vs. Old 97’s, “Graveyard Whistling” (11 songs)

PREVIEW | Everyone has zeroed in on this match-up of indie rock veterans as the best of the first round…safe to say, it’s going to come down to stage possession and who can hit that occasional three pointer…

30 MINUTES LEFT | Ryan Adams (Doomsday) | Harmonica deployed early on in this acoustic missive…solid jump shot from the depressed corner for two points…

27 MINUTES LEFT | Old 97’s (She Hates Everybody) | You know what you are going to get with these alt-country mainstays–instantly accessible, meat and potatoes rock’n’roll…Rhett Miller misses his misanthrope and we are knotted up at two…

23 MINUTES LEFT | Ryan Adams (Do You Still Love Me?) | You gotta figure a lot of the venom from this record has to be directed at ex-wife Mandy Moore, although it seems like he has been writing songs like this his whole career…this song fucking rocks and we have a three pointer for Adams!

19 MINUTES LEFT | Ryan Adams (Prisoner) | More acoustic and harp as Ryan is thinking I need to wind down at this stage of the evening…two more points…Adams 7 Old 2

15 MINUTES LEFT | Old 97’s (Turns Out I’m Trouble) | Not one of the better offerings as the lyrics have always made me chuckle…”Of all the decent hearted women I’ve made cry, turns out I’m a troubled guy”…how troubled is he talking about and I am wondering if this is a subliminal admission for past crimes…music has done a decent job of slow growing so another two points for Old’s…

10 MINUTES LEFT | Ryan Adams (Tightrope) | I wonder if Ryan Adams is a Dirty Harry fan? Really like the horn-age that sneakily sneaks in towards the end of this song and this album scores two more…Adams 9 Old 4

7 MINUTES LEFT | Ryan Adams (Shiver and Shake) | Another case of stage possession deciding the match…plus, the top to bottom consistency of this album…another two points…

4 MINUTES LEFT | Old 97’s (All Who Wander) | Well, they are going down bombing from three as they call one of my favorite plays…Adams 11 Old 7

1 MINUTE LEFT | Ryan Adams (Broken Anyway) | Rhett Miller is not happy that Adams is still taking the stage at this point and he is being restrained by Mocker Bracket Bouncer Coach Bobby…you guessed it, Adams scores two more…

FINAL SCOREĀ  | Ryan Adams 13 Old 97’s 7 | I would say this lived up to the hype as every play garnered at least two points but Adams stage possession was just too much and he moves on to face Deaf Havana in the second round…

SOCCER UPDATE: Match ends in a 1-1 draw, not a bad result as winning on the road against a tough Panamanian defense is a difficult task…the US currently sits fourth in the CONCACAF standings, which would be good for a World Cup playoff against probably New Zealand or some other soccer shit country we should beat…

SECOND ROUND PREVIEW: You probably never thought it would get here and you never know, it might never…

PITT BRACKET: The Courtneys vs. Los Campesinos! | Gone is Gone vs. Flaming Lips…A whole lot of top forty hits in this bracket…

MADEA BRACKET: Hurray for the Riff Raff vs. Stephen Pearcy | Black Star Riders vs. Cloud Nothings…Will it be an All Eric Mocker Music Meltdown in the Madea Bracket?? Holy shit, this music bracket interests absolutely no one…

JAKER BRACKET: Dropkick Murphys vs. Hand Habits | Grandaddy vs. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard…I am pissed that KG&LW won because I now have to continue to write that stupid fucking name…and also thank to the Dropkick Murphys, this bracket now interests drunken New Englanders

BOEHEIM BRACKET: Deaf Havana vs. Ryan Adams | The Sadies vs. Ron Gallo…Lotta heavy hitters in this bracket, and also Deaf Havana…

There you have it, thanks for reading and leave your feedback to @MockersPodcast…
